About NOLA Dog Sports Club
We are a new club formed to bring more dog sporting events to the Greater New Orleans Area. We will be applying to the American Kennel Club to become an AKC member club allowing us to sponsor events like Agility, Rally, Obedience, and Fast CAT to name a few. Along with AKC sponsored events we are planning to participate in other events such as the International K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch league. Our goal is to have more fun with man’s best friend which leads to the most important part of the club, to be able to be more social with our members and our dogs together. Our mission statement is SOCIALIZE-TRAIN-COMPETE.
SOCIALIZE: The most important part of our club, not because we don’t take training and competition seriously, but because we want to be a part of a group of people who enjoy the company of each other as well as our dogs. We try to schedule weekly (fair weather) pack walks in different parts of the Greater New Orleans area. We also try to plan occasional events at other locations to socialize and relax.
TRAIN: Our goal is to be able to train for different dog sporting events that our members want to compete in. This has included starting a beginners Frisbee Toss and Fetch team and conducting Canine Good Citizens training.
COMPETE: We have members who compete and have titles in many different events such Agility, Obedience, Fast Cat and Confirmation to name a few.

Our Mission
We want people to just get out and have FUN with their dogs! Many people think that dog sports are only for purebred dogs registered with the AKC. Most dog sports are actually open to all dogs. Now your dog can compete and earn titles through AKC Canine Partners in the sports of obedience, rally, agility, tracking, and coursing agility test (CAT), whether they have papers or were rescued from a shelter.
Our mission is to bring more dog sports to the Greater New Orleans Area. Many of us have traveled the region with our dogs to compete in various dog sports. Wouldn’t it be great if the New Orleans area was know as the best destination in the Gulf South for dog sports? We want to bring those events back home.
We are actively searching for a new location for agility classes, as the field classes were being held is no longer available. Our goal is to find a space to hold classes locally without having to travel to the Northshore or Baton Rouge. We recognize how important it is to be able to practice locally and the need for a practice field closer to home is a necessity.
Why Join NOLA Dog Sports Club?
We want to bring more dog sports to the NOLA area allowing us to stay home, sleep in our own beds and still compete. We all know that everyone loves to visit New Orleans and the our area is perfectly situated to host dog sports events, Within a 5 hour drive of New Orleans: Houston, Texas to our West; Shreveport, Louisiana to the Northwest; Tupelo, Mississippi to our north; Birmingham, Montgomery & Dothan, Alabama to the East and all the way to Panama City to the West on the Florida Gulf Coast; all of these areas are are within a reasonable drive to New Orleans.
If you have ever travelled out of state to compete you know how expensive that gets with traveling, meals, entry fees, photos (I know I can’t pass up the photos!) and then the costs of a hotel or Airbnb (after you find one that accepts dogs!), you can easily spend $1000 for a weekend. Our membership fee is less than the first night in a hotel out of town. plus you get to sleep in your own bed!
We also want to do FUN events right here at home like the K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch League, offer classes to help you & your dog(s) learn more about dog sports and earn more titles and just spend more time with like minded people who just like to get out and have fun with their dogs,
Club History
The idea of forming a club came at a Fast CAT event in the spring of 2021 when Michael asked why don’t we have more dog sports events around the New Orleans area versus traveling to neighboring states. We learned that clubs could only produce so many events and it’s a lot of work. Michael being in the events producing business knew what had to happen. He recruited James, who was the person who originally introduced him to Fast CAT to help lead the group. Next Michael recruited his wife Leslie who serves on the board of the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association for her board experience and to bring the knowledge of a veterinarian to the board.
Next came fellow Australian Cattle Dog owner Lauren who is also one of the owners of Professional K9 Solutions who also loves competing with her dogs. Steve joined our board after so many discussions of agility fields when our local agility field closed leaving all of us without a place to practice. Lastly, longtime friend Leslie who was the volunteer coordinator at NOLA Barn Hunt Friends joined our board.
Our board comes from a variety of dog sports, people with a variety of backgrounds and most importantly people that like to get out and have fun with their dogs! We look forward to bringing more likeminded people together to bring more dog sports to our area and more time together with our dogs.
